AUGUST 2009
Greater Flamingos - Algarve,
Portugal
Each evening several flocks of
greater flamingo comprising of both adult and immature birds descend on the salt
extraction lagoons across the entire Ria Formosa. Though always skittish at best
occasionally photographic opportunities arise by series of tracks that divide
the lagoons. In this image I wanted to show how one of Europe's most stunning
species can thrive in close proximity to urban developments. Like home in the
Peak District, the Ria Formosa is a working landscape where nature and man live
in harmony.
