Spanish Festoon - Zerynthia rumina

This attractive butterfly is found throughout the Algarve and Andalusía regions of Iberia. In favourable years they produce two broods depending upon local climatic conditions. They inhabit hot, dry rocky places amongst scrub, farmland, flowery meadows and the margins of dry riverbeds where they search for Birthwort - Aristolochia semphervirens to lay their eggs.

Canon 5D MkII - 180mm f3.5 lens - f/11 @ 1/60 sec. - ISO100 - Gitzo G1548 tripod with G2270M head
